Village of Clyde NYS Historic Marker Unveilings
The Village of Clyde will host a dedication ceremony for five historic markers on Thursday, July 25. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Lauraville Landing Park where two of the markers are located. One marker commemorates Block House Road, which is named for an 18th century fortification that once stood nearby and the other recognizes the West Shore railroad line.
The tour of markers will then proceed to other nearby points in the village. Those markers commemorate the site of a 1902 train wreck, a fire that destroyed several buildings in the 1840s and the site of an iron works facility that made farm implements. The ceremony will conclude with dedication of a new plaque for a World War One cannon in central park across from the Village Hall. An informal reception will follow at the Clyde Municipal Building.
