HAIRY WOMEN OF KLIPNOCKY,
ONCE YOUNG GIRLS, INHABIT
THIS FOREST, WAITING FOR
THEIR PARENTS' RETURN.
NEW YORK FOLKLORE SOCIETY
WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2018
This local lore has several variations. One version of the “Hairy Women of Klipnocky” goes that parents needed to leave their daughters home alone, giving the girls instructions to go into the forest for their own safety if anyone was to show up at the house. The parents never returned and were said to be killed. The house burned. Locals thought the daughters had died in the fire, until strange reports started coming in some years later. Items were disappearing and there were screams coming from the forest, as well as sightings of what was believed to be large, hairy women.
