WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2022
The Borden Company purchased the land in 1907 and quickly constructed their plant, which opened here the following year. It included a condensery as well as a machine shop that produced cans, labels, and other packaging materials. The plant processed nearly 20,000 pounds of milk daily, which was condensed, canned, and shipped. The company later produced manufacturing equipment to test product quality as well as to make cans, replacement parts, and farm equipment filters.
Throughout its history, the Borden Company was formerly known as Borden’s Condensed Milk Company, Borden’s Milk Products Co., Inc., and Borden, Inc. When it was later sold to the Aluminum Corporation of America in 1986, there were only 100 employees at this plant in Randolph, NY. The sale also included Borden’s two plants in Colorado. As of 2022, the marker stands outside of the former Borden Plant, which has since been home to various businesses.
