Bristol Hill Church was founded in 1812. The church building, constructed in 1833, was built by a mix of African American and Caucasian parishioners. The church was active in the abolition movement. Members’ signatures appearing on an anti-slavery petition in 1842. Church member Deacon Hirum Gilbert assisted George, a fugitive from slavery, in his escape to Canada, by providing him with a pair of boots.
