FORMAN HOUSE
BUILT IN 1810 FOR
JOSHUA FORMAN
FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE
VILLAGE OF SYRACUSE AND
CHAMPION OF THE ERIE CANAL
WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION

The Foreman House is located in Onondaga Valley, a short distance from Syracuse, NY. It was named after the first president and founder of Syracuse, Joshua Foreman. This house, built in 1810, was Foreman’s home for several years. Forman, along with a handful of others, recognized the economic impact that Erie Canal could have on New York State and was a strong advocate for its construction.  It is no surprise that when the Erie Canal was built, it passed directly through the village of Syracuse.
