Guttenberg Lockmaster House

The Guttenberg Lockmaster House is the last lockmaster house on the Upper Mississippi that remains in its original location. In 1938 two dwellings were built as on site residences for the Lockmaster and Assistant Lockmaster of Lock and Dam 10. A two car garage located between the houses served both houses. The homes were built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under the Works Progress Administration for the Upper Mississippi River 9-Foot Channel Project. This house was used as a Residence from 1938 until 1990. In 1991 the house became a museum operated by the Guttenberg Heritage Society.

Erected by the Guttenberg Heritage Society and the State Historical Society of Iowa with funding support from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. 2022.
