WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2021
In 1919, the town of Winfield voted to authorize the park “for the erection of a monument or other structure as a memorial to the patriotic services rendered by those who were enrolled from said Town of Winfield in the military and naval service of the United States in the late European War.” Soon thereafter a committee was organized and this site was selected and purchased. Construction began in the spring of 1920. Winfield Memorial Park was officially opened on July 3, 1920 with a parade, events, and a fair-like atmosphere.
