Panther Mountain Road is said to be named for a Native American man who called himself “The Panther.” The man lived on the mountain and in the wilderness back during the 1800s. It’s said he also fished on Canadarago Lake. The road was called Panther’s Mountain before getting shortened to Panther Mountain.
