In 1873, a schoolhouse was constructed on land previously owned by Daniel Pomeroy, and later Andrew Pomeroy, on Lower Mountain Road in Lockport, NY. The Pomeroy School was also known as District 5 and Hickory Corners School. The schoolhouse was in use until 1956, when area schools were consolidated into the enlarged Lockport City School District. In 1957, the schoolhouse was sold to the Town of Lockport. The building was used as a meeting spot for local groups and as a polling place until the 1970s. In 1988, the Town of Lockport Historical Society was formed and began an ongoing project renovating the former schoolhouse to use as a meeting place and educational tool.
