Established before 1876 these two railroads, Poughkeepsie & Eastern R.R. and the Dutchess & Columbia R.R., served New York State for a number of years. As train travel grew and evolved so did the need for proper railroad facilities which led to the construction of the new train station at Stissing Junction around 1887. A series of fires destroyed the previous depot and station. In 1913 a new station was planned. The June 7, 1913 edition of The Evening Enterprise describes the project:

The Central New England Railway Company is planning to spend a considerable sum of money at Stissing. Plans are completed for a new passenger station of $2,000. As Stissing is at the junction of the C.N.E. and N.D.C branches, in order to handle the increasing freight busines at that point a Y will be built. A Long siding has now been completed at that point. The water tank at Stanfordville will also be moved to Stissing.

By 1915 the new Stissing rail station was complete. One a couple decades later, by 1938, the railroads were abandoned and eventually the train station was removed. Today there is nothing that remains of the Poughkeepsie & Eastern and the Dutchess & Columbia Railroads except the railbeds where trains once passed.
