WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2019

When it opened in 1897, Summit Park entertained visitors of all ages and social classes with games, rides, bands and dancing. Trolley service carried visitors into the park from Oklahoma Ave. In August 1910, at the height of the parks popularity, 10,000 people descended on Summit Park for the highly anticipated visit of former President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt. As he entered the park he was welcomed with enthusiastic excitement from the crowd. As the popularity of cars increased distances the average family was able to travel to seek recreation, Summit Park closed in 1927. Today, nothing remains of the former amusement park.
