In 1789 a party of approximately 24 men, along with their household members, built three cabins here at what would become the Town of Bloomfield (now the Town of East Bloomfield). Among those who witnessed this settlement were Judge Augustus Porter, who (writing of his own personal experience in 1848) remembered surveying Township No. 10, 4th Range (now East Bloomfield, Ontario County). He states that in May of 1789, when he arrived to conduct this survey:

Here Mr. Adams had erected two small log houses and one large one in which for the time being all these people found shelter.
