In 1873, Nelson A. Wetmore built a new three story store to replace his brother Orlando Wetmore’s store on the corner of Wayland and Depot Street (now University Avenue) in North Cohocton, NY. Deeds show that Orlando Wetmore owned the land at this location from 1853 until he sold it to his brother Nelson in 1867. It was known as Wetmore Brothers and sold general merchandise including food staples and household goods. By 1898, the store was owned and operated by Wolfanger & Pierce, known as “The Two Hanks.” After the death of Pierce in 1923, it was known as Wolfanger Store. In 1955, Charles E. Briglin purchased and remodeled the store. The store continued to operate with various owners until closing in 2008. It was renovated and reopened in 2015 under the name Olde Country Store.
