In the town of Wheeler is Steuben County, New York stands a station building built in 1890 by the Kanona & Prattsburgh Railroad. The railroad was organized in 1886 and operated an 11-mile single track line that provided freight and passenger service between Kanona and Prattsburgh, extending from a connection with the Rochester division of the Erie Railroad at Kanona. Wheeler station was one of only two station buildings maintained on the line, the other being located at Prattsburgh. At Kanona, the Erie Railroad station was used.

By the early 1950s, the railroad suffered continual losses and in 1959 ceased operation of the line. As of 2024, Wheeler station remains as a reminder of this small but impactful local, independent railroad.
